Hey Yak Pack! Tru-Yak is back and I want to talk about this weekend’s college football games. Last week I put out my top ten quarterback rankings, however, they were written before this weekend’s games, so I just wanted to give my thoughts about this weekend.
Specifically I wanted to spotlight three players that had outstanding weeks. There were multiple great performances this weekend, but I chose three that really stood out to me. If your favorite player did not make it this week then check back next week for week 11’s top performers.
This was probably one of the best weekends in college football that we had this year and there were tons of great games. The top teams continue to dominate and we were left in awe of some of the performances this weekend.
The college football playoffs are approaching as well as bowl season. Teams are making playoff and bowl game pushes that require nothing but their best players to have their best performances. It’s college football, one loss can ruin a whole season.
Now let’s see who was getting the lady yaks after their games this weekend.
HM: Shedeur Sanders
Shedeur had another big week that showed why he is considered a top quarterback in college football. Sanders and the Buffs played against 21st ranked Arizona and gave them a run for their money. Colorado took an early lead and looked good, but ultimately lost on a game winning field goal as time expired.
The fact that they were even in that game is outstanding and it was all behind Sanders’ big outstanding quarterback play. He went 22-35, for 262 yards, and 2 touchdowns along with 29 rush yards and a rushing touchdown. He played great and was responsible for almost 300 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Sanders played great and had a terrific performance, but he could not come away with the win, and these other performances were just slightly better so shout-out to him for his great play, but this week he is just the honorable mention.
#3: R.J Harvey, UCF
UCF went up against 15th ranked Oklahoma St. in a game where UCF was not supposed to win. That did not matter for senior running back R.J Harvey. Harvey is a fast and elusive running back that can be effective in the passing and the running game.
This game against Oklahoma St. he showed his value to UCF and to NFL teams that might want to consider the young running back. Harvey, who already had 4 straight 100 yard plus games on the ground, had the game of his young career to keep UCF’s bowl chances alive.
Harvey ran for 206 yards on 24 attempts, and he had 3 touchdowns. That’s 8.6 yards per carry, and he even had a 92 yard touchdown carry in the game. Harveys attack on the rushing game helped lead the biggest upset of the weekend.
Oklahoma St. dropped from 15h to 24th and had the worst game of their season as they lost 45-3 to unranked UCF. Harvey was uncatchable and untackleable in the win vs Oklahoma St. It was pouring rain so the pass game was nearly impossible.
This made UCF rely on the run game, and Harvey delivered. He ran for a season high in yards and scored three times to secure the win against Oklahoma St.
This puts Harvey at 1,082 yards on the season and 12 touchdowns. Hopefully he can lead UCF to one more bowl game before he enters the draft.
#2: Jayden Daniels
Daniels had a big game against the University of Florida, and showed why he should be a Heisman candidate. Daniels kept LSU ranked 15th still, and has been carrying them to being a ranked team.
Daniels was responsible for 600 total yards! That is an insane amount of yards for the young quarterback. He had 372 passing yards and three passing touchdowns along with 234 rushing yards and two touchdowns. That is 5 touchdowns along with over 600 total yards.
Daniels is coming off a week where he got injured in what looked like it was going to be a career game vs Alabama. He bounced back and somehow had an even better week against UF with over 600 total yards and 5 total touchdowns.
Daniels was in my top 10, but maybe deserves to move up after this game. He had the game of his life, and completely ignored adversity. He is going to be an NFL talent and he seems like he could be a future superstar in the league.
He now totals 3,164 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, 114 rush yards, and 8 rush touchdowns. These are elite numbers in college football, and he deserves recognition as a top 10 QB in the NCAA.
Daniels was a top performer and looks to boost his draft stock up to be a top draft pick in this year’s draft. He can make an immediate impact on an NFL team and he proved his worth this weekend.
#1: Jalen Milroe
Milroe did not make my top 10, but if I gotta do it again today I would replace him for J.J McCarthy. Milroe had another electric week and has shown his value as a top 10 quarterback. I am fully in on Milroe and I will say that I was wrong, he deserves to replace McCathy in my list.
Milroe had a rough start to the year, but since being benched against USF, he has seemed much more confident and comfortable in his game, and Alabama has still not lost a game since Texas. Alabama is still ranked 8th and hopefully will make an appearance in the CFP if some of the undefeated teams lose.
Milroe was up against the 6-3 Kentucky team that looked to upset Alabama at home. From the first drive however they never even had a chance. Alabama routed Kentucky 49-21 in Saturday’s blowout loss.
Milroe had 234 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, 1 interception, and 3 rushing touchdowns on 36 rushing yards. Yes that is correct Milroe was responsible for 6 touchdowns in a statement game for Alabama.
Milroe was running around and making plays left and right. He was throwing the deep ball, and dumping the ball off enough to keep the chains moving. Milroe had his best game this year and will hopefully keep improving from here.
Milroe deserves to be recognized as a top 10 quarterback and will surely be drafted this year if he decides to enter. He was this week’s most impressive performer, and he looked like he could compete with any quarterback in the nation.
ONWARD!
