College football has sadly come to an end after Ohio St. beat Notre Dame in the National Championship. There were a lot of great games and moments this year, but let’s see how much you were paying attention. The council of Yaks and I have come together to give you a quiz on the 2024-2025 CFB season.
I know there are a lot of colleges out there so do not worry there is no trivia specific Kennesaw or Akron (unless you attend one of those then I am sorry to put short handed) but this will have some general questions that smaller schools may be apart of, But if your a fan of College Football like the Yaks are then you should do great. Yes, the answer to number 1 was Kyle McCord. Kyle McCord led the nation with 4,326 passing yards, he also added 29 passing touchdowns along with it. He also broke several Syracuse records this year. Beside the ones mentioned in the prompt he broke the record for passing yards per game in a season, complexion percentage in a season, passing yards per game, total touchdowns in a season, total yards in a season, pass attempts in a season, and most consecutive passes without an interception.

Army got off to a hot start and was ranked 24 after starting 6-0. They then lost back to back games to Notre Dame and Rice and ended up going 3-3 over their last 6 games. The team still had an excellent season and finished 9-3, they even won their Bowl game against Oklahoma. However they unfortunately did not end the season ranked.

This year’s interception leader was Nohl Williams, a cornerback for the California Golden Bears. Williams recorded 50 tackles, 8 deflections, 1 forced fumble, and 1 touchdown this year along with his 7 interceptions this year. Williams is a senior that is looking to be drafted this April.
Question 4: Lets stay on defense, what school had the most TOTAL sacks this year?

Boise State recorded a nation leading 55 sacks this year, and they were second in sacks per game with 3.93 sacks per game. They were led by Jayden Virgin-Morgan who was tied for 12th in the nation in sacks with 10 sacks, and Ahmed Hassanien who was tied for 19th in the nation in sacks with 8.5 sacks.

Kyle Williams had 13 receiving touchdowns this year in Washington State’s air raid offense which landed him at 3rd in the nation just behind Nick Nash and Travis Hunter. Williams added 60 catches for 1,026 yards this season as well. Williams is a senior that spent the first portion of his college career at UNLV before transferring.
Question 6: How many of the top 20 rushing yards leaders were in the Big 12?

The Big 12 had a phenomenal rushing season and had 5 running backs in the top 25 rushing leaders. RJ Harvey of UCF, Cam Skattebo of ASU, Tahk Brooks of TTU, DJ Giddens of KSU, and Devin Neal of KU all were in the top 25. Harvey and Skattebo were 4th and 5th in the nation and Brooks was top 10 as well. Giddens was tied for 12th and Neal was 18th.

The SEC had some elite quarterback play, but they also had some gunslingers that like to take risks. Carson Beck, Garrett Nussmeier, and Quinnen Ewers all threw 12 to lead the SEC, and Jalen Milroe fell shortly behind with 11. All those quarterbacks had very successful seasons so they will be ok, they just need to be a little more careful with the ball. Auburn’s Payton Thorne, Arkansas’ Taylen Green, and Florida’s DJ Lagway all were very close to making this list as they all threw 9 interceptions this year.

Abdul Carter was one of the biggest disruptors in the backfield and will surely be a top 10 pick in this year’s draft. Carter had a great season helping Penn State get all the way to the final four teams left. Carter had 60 tackles, 10 sacks, 3 pass deflections, and 2 forced fumbles this year.

South Florida this year finished 7-6 after beating San Jose State in the Hawaii Bowl. Washington, West Virginia, Oklahoma, and NC State all ended their seasons 6-7. A lot of these teams are normally good programs and will hopefully bounce back next season.

Six different schools had running backs that had 90+ yard rushes. Blake Horvath of Navy had a 90 yard rush, Jordan Lyle from Miami had a 91 yard run, Quinn Henickle of Ole Dominion and Jaden Nixon of Western Michigan had 92 yard runs, and Xavier Terrell of FAU had a 93 yard run to fill in the 2-6 spots. Now for the extra credit the running back with the longest run was Jordan Waters out of North Carolina State with a 94 yard run.
