Hello FAN-YAKS! Wasabi-Yakabi here, welcome to my sports blog column, where I talk about everything related to sports…Except sports. That’s right, I know nothing about sports. I don’t know who’s playing, who’s winning, who’s losing, who’s cheating, who’s doping, who’s retiring, who’s coming back, who’s suing, who’s getting sued…I don’t know any of that stuff. But I do know some things that are SPORTS ADJACENT. You know, things that are related to sports, but not really sports. Things like:
- Sports movies. I love sports movies. They make me feel like I’m part of the game, even though I’m just sitting on the couch eating popcorn. I can tell you all about the best sports movies of all time, like The Natural, Hoosiers, Brian’s Song, Space Jam…you name it, I’ve seen it.
- Sports fashion. I love sports fashion. They make me look like I’m an athlete, even though I’m just walking down the street wearing sneakers. I can tell you all about the latest trends in sports fashion, like jerseys, caps, jackets, socks, sunglasses…you name it, I’ve worn it.
- Sports trivia. I love sports trivia. They make me sound like I’m a fan, even though I’m just googling the answers. I can tell you all about the most interesting facts and figures in sports history, like records, statistics, awards, scandals…you name it, I’ve googled it.
So why should you keep coming back to read my thoughts and ideas? Because they’re researched, overthought, spicy and they’re honest. I’m not here to pretend that I know what I’m talking about. I’m here to entertain you with my ignorance and curiosity.
And maybe along the way, we’ll both learn something new about sports…Or not.
So stay tuned for my next post, where I’ll tell you why basketball is better than football…or vice versa. I don’t know yet. I’ll flip a coin and see what happens.
